Getting started into self-tuning is a fairly daunting task. There are quite a few things to change for any given tune, and usually you can find several ways to do things, albeit after MUCH searching.
tunexchange has been created to make setting up your tune easier, letting you focus on the actual tuning of your car and not researching which values you need to cut and paste to even get started.
How to use this site
This site has been designed to be as easy as possible to use and to not get in your way. You don't even need an account to access the templates. We do require an account before you can upload tunes and make comments -- this keeps out the spam bots and the riff raff, an unfortunate byproduct of the Internet.
I highly recommend that you take the time to comment on any templates that you use and if you come up with your own template, please contribute!
I have CalEdit or <insert your tuning software here>, can I use this???
Absolutely! Any software that supports the .bin tune format can read in the tunes you make with BinaryEditor. This includes CalEdit/CalCon, TunerPro, Moates.NET and many others. Hare are quite a few stock binaries to get you started.
Recommended tuning software
I highly recommend using Clint Garrity's tuning software, BinaryEditor (BE). This software directly supports importing the templates you will find on this site — loading templates is literally a two click operation.
Loading a template is simple...
- Download a template that supports your tuning strategy (ex. GUFB, CBAZA)
- Open your binary tune in BE, selecting the appropriate strategy definition
- Click the "Load Template" button and find the template that you have downloaded
- There is no step 4
The easy way to make a template
If you are using BinaryEditor, as you make changes to a tune, you will notice that it saves log files of your changes. You can use the BinaryEditor log to template converter tool to create a template from this file.
The anatomy of a template
We've designed the templates to be very easy to construct and to perform well across multiple vehicle strategies. There are just a handful of things you should know about create a template.
- Templates are plain-text comma-separated files
- Templates contain five columns - PID, NewValue, Row, Column, Strategy
- Templates with multiple strategies have the strategies separated by a colon — :
- Every column is required
- Comment blocks starts and end with an asterisk — *
- Templates end in a .txt extension
- Rows and columns start at zero
PID,NewValue,Row,Column,Strategy TIP_MIN_SPK,50,0,0,CBAZA:GUFB *************Start of Comments*************** Remove the tip in retard that takes place on tip-in of the throttle (shifting). *************End of Comments***************
After reading through the sample template above, if you have any questions, download some of the templates available here or feel free to ask for assistance
